Summer 2011
So here it comes. This will probably be our biggest post yet. Hopefully I can do it justice. I can hardly believe that the summer is already at the end and the kids are back in school. I think the summer was shorter this year. It felt like all we had was the month of July and that doesn't count because it always feels like half the month is holidays!
We started off our summer throwing the two oldest into swimming lessons. We decided that since we had a swim pass we needed to use it, but if I take the kids swimming alone, at least half better fend for themselves. There went June.
Daily routine consisted of waking, feeding, napping, feeding, running, crying, napping, feeding, sleeping. Don't forget changing in there constantly as well. Of course we now had Ayslind home from school which was a BIG help. She loves to change diapers (for now) so she really saved me this summer. We were able to make it story time a few times. Luckily they had a big kids story time adventure for Ayslind and Cyana is still young enough to take Bowyn to the smaller kids story corner. We have been going to story time for as long as we have had kids and I absolutely love summer reading! We also have to throw in the schedule the PTA kids summer reading club. They got to go up and read for an hour to some peer tutors or moms all through June. They track their reading for the entire summer and turn it in on the first day of school. Happy to report that Ayslind read 700+ books and Cyana read 200+ (we just gave up keeping track). Again I love summer reading!
There are so many fun things that go on all summer. We tried to hit a lot of them, but adjusting to 4 kids has is anchors. We found that Bowyn has a secret love...face painting. We went to Macey's for one of their Saturday things and he got his face painted like a lion. He was under the misconception that it was still there for days afterward. He would come up to me and say, "Mom! Do you see my lion face?" or "Don't wash too hard. You will wash off my lion face."
The big build up for Brent and the kids this summer was having family come and visit for about three weeks. The did everything together. It was slamming in a year of activities into just those three weeks. Brent and his brother took the kids backpacking up to Silver Lake, then we blessed Lyvi, then the 4th of July and all of its hoopla (parades, barbeque, legalized aerial fireworks, etc.). Then the following Friday we headed on our multifamily vacation to Washington state. That will take a whole few blog posts in and of itself. Back from vacation straight into the 24th of July (copy and paste the 4th of July, but take away the parade, that is one I just don't do alone)! Next thing we knew August was here and that meant birthdays, school shopping, Bear Lake and yes the first day of school.
